Teens Opposing Poverty (TOP)

Providence Chapel youth and adult volunteers participate in three of Teens Opposing Poverty’s outreaches.

The Street – Once or twice per year volunteers provide food, toiletries and other needed items for homeless people who live on the streets in Washington, DC. TOP’s staff is always present to ensure safety and to facilitate connections between volunteers and the people they serve.

Senior Ministry – Approximately 4 times each year, PC volunteers provide groceries and other needed items to residents of Johnson Williams Apartments (subsidized housing for disabled and senior citizens) in Berryville, VA. In addition to meeting needs, they provide a time of fun and fellowship for the residents.

Impact the Valley – Providence Chapel sends a team of volunteers to help repair the homes of low-income people in the Northern Shenandoah Valley. Impact the Valley is held during the last full week of June. For more details, click HERE.

Food and Other Local Needs

Providence Chapel can provide help for anyone in our community who has the need for food and other local needs such as assistance with bills, etc.

Operation Christmas Child

Samaritan’s Purse sponsors Operation Christmas Child each year. People from 10 countries fill shoe boxes with special gifts for children living in poverty around the world. Samaritan’s Purse builds on these connections with the children and their families to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. In 2024, Samaritan’s Purse distributed shoeboxes to over 11.9 million children.

The congregations of Providence Chapel and Mt. Carmel assemble approximately 100 boxes each year.

Shut-in Visitation

Periodically, members of the church visit the shut-ins of our church and others in the community. We usually bring gifts or needed items and offer fellowship and prayer.

Clarke County Food Distribution

Once a year, we participate in the Clarke County Food Distribution at Duncan Memorial Church in Berryvile. Each month a church participates with Social Services to assist families in need.  August is the month for Providence Chapel.  All are welcome to join.  It is a fun time as we gather in community to assist and reach out.

Compassion International

The church and a number of its members sponsor impoverished children through Compassion International. Through a low, monthly donation, Compassion provides food, education, Christian discipleship, and community support for children around the world who live in extreme poverty.
